Empowering Collective Action
Over the past few years, some of the amazing researchers at Cawthron Institute have been developing a framework for supporting the many community groups playing important roles in tackling the climate crisis. To go along side the next phase of their research, the team wanted a suite of images to illustrate the key messages, for use across presentations and collateral.
The collection centers around a hero image, with each of the five supporting illustration highlighting an important action that environmental collectives undertake: Building relationships, championing action, supporting initiatives, co-developing plans and sharing knowledge. Throughout the illustrations, collective members where shown in each of these these supporting roles.
It was also important to showcase a range of environments, with coastal, wetland, alpine, forest and urban locations all featured. The illustrations all feature a wide collection of native flora and fauna, including the use of leafy and floral embellishments to frame each artwork.
The illustrations where all designed to be contained within organic, natural feeling shapes that would fit together when all illustrations were brought together onto one poster.
